Canada Delivers Statement at Fukushima Ministerial Nuclear Conference

In a statement delivered at the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) Fukushima Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Safety, held December 14 – 17 in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, Canada reinforced the importance of continued collective vigilance in strengthening nuclear safety.
The statement was delivered on December 15 by Head of Delegation, Ambassador John Barrett, who is Canada’s ambassador to the IAEA and the current Chair of the IAEA Board of Governors.
“Canada will also continue to work towards greater openness and transparency within the context of the Convention on Nuclear Safety review process”, said Ambassador Barrett in delivering the statement.

The CNSC regulates the use of nuclear energy and materials to protect the health, safety and security of Canadians and the environment, and to implement Canada’s international commitments on the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
